Grand Junction, Colorado / Compare treatments

Not all roof rejuvenation is the same in Grand Junction.

Every rejuvenation product promises to revive your shingles. Here is how the ShingleLock treatment we use compares with the two other common technologies, solvent-style soy methyl esters and nanosilica coatings, in plain English.

Why shingles get brittle

Asphalt shingles stay flexible because of natural oils in the asphalt. At 4,586 feet, with 300 days of sun, a July UV index of 11, and air this dry, those oils bake and evaporate out faster here than in most of the country. What is left turns stiff, curls, cracks, and sheds the granules that protect the roof.

Every rejuvenation product is trying to fix that. The real question is how deep, and how well, each one does it.

Oil loss

Light oils evaporate and wash away.

Oxidation

UV and heat harden the asphalt.

Clumping

Hardened parts cluster and turn brittle.

Side by side

We compare technologies, not companies. Figures come from each manufacturer's published materials and publicly listed pricing. Your roof's price is set after inspection.

Bar length shows the upper end of each size range. Aging happens inside the shingle, not just on top, so smaller molecules reach the damage.

Honest pros and cons

ShingleLock

  • Smallest molecules of the three, reaches aging inside the shingle
  • Bonds chemically with oxidized asphalt
  • Broadest published independent lab testing
  • Newer name in some markets
  • Not every roof qualifies

Soy methyl ester

  • Established category with many applicators
  • Restores some flexibility
  • Acts mainly as a solvent rather than bonding
  • Limited published independent testing

Nanosilica

  • Often the lowest upfront price
  • Some published hail testing
  • Larger particles stay closer to the surface
  • Does not replace lost oils on its own
